Sophronia Scott - Wardrobe Makeover
Sophfronia Scott, Editor of How the Fierce Handle Fear

I received the request for a major television interview for ABC News on short notice. But I didn't have to fret about what to wear because of the many fabulous outfits and accessories Pam had assembled for me. I felt totally confident about my appearance and I think that shows on camera. Everyone who sees the video comments on how great I look in yellow! Thank you Pam!

Testimonials - You are my best advertisement!

“Having a baby and working from home for 5 years put me totally out of touch with my wardrobe. I knew I had some great things in my closet, but I had lost confidence in knowing what looked good and what really fit. Every time I had
a speaking engagement or public event, I would rush around trying to find something appropriate and nine times out of ten ended up buying an outfit I was unhappy with. What a waste of money! I found shopping frustrating because I could never find what I was looking for.
Then I met Pam Friedlander. I appreciated her sense of style and color right off the bat. But what made me want to work with her was that she very quickly understood who I was, the image I needed to project, and what clothing and colors would help me do that.
In two days she helped me make up for five years of wardrobe neglect and mistakes! I loved what she made of the clothes I already had and then the clothes and shoes she found for me while shopping just took my whole wardrobe to the next level. Now I feel beautiful and confident every time I get dressed. I know I'm going to look great for all of my appearances from now on. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

“I thought it would be simple to find a dress for a small, very private second-marriage ceremony at home.  I couldn't spend a lot of money, but I still wanted something special for such an important event.  When I stopped into a few bridal shops I was flabbergasted by the cost of even the simplest bridesmaid dress.  After wasting about a month shopping and even buying a few things that turned out to be total mistakes, I started to panic.  Then I realized, "I know - I can call Pam!”

“Pam had me meet her at a department store and by the time I arrived, she has scoured the store and had a waiting room ready with six dresses in various shades of cream or white ready for me to try on.  This dress, a Ralph Lauren design from his lower price line, was the first one I tried on, and I fell in love with it immediately.  (I actually bought one of the others, too, a white strapless that I brought on my honeymoon cruise.) I was disappointed when we left without also buying shoes to go with it, because we couldn't find any in the shoe department that weren't exorbitantly priced ($500 plus).  Two days later I got a phone call from Pam giving me the style names and directions for finding not one but two pairs of dress shoes in Lord & Taylor - not where we bought the dress -  that went perfectly with the dress. Not only were both were reasonably priced - about $75 - but they were on sale, too, and the pair I chose ended up costing $55.”

“The final result? Would you believe that this entire wedding outfit, dress plus shoes (see photo) cost just under $200? By the way, Pam told me exactly how to have the dress slightly altered, and what undergarments I needed.  Literally the day before my wedding, when I again panicked that I had not yet found the perfect necklace to wear with it (everyone I knew was lending me her pearl necklaces, and nothing was right) Pam and I went shopping.  She took me to a few stores, including a boutique in Westport, where I have lived for 12 years, that I hadn't even known about.  There we found this fresh water pearl necklace that was exactly what I had envisioned - and the jewelry-designer-owner made earrings to match on the spot.  Together both necklace and earrings cost about $150. ”

“I have never felt the need to use a personal shopper before.  I once might have thought it an indulgence.  But I now consider this money very well spent.  Most important, thanks to Pam I will always treasure my wedding photos - which were, by the way, featured in the NY Times in Vows! (Click on the link to see me in my Positive Reflections wedding outfit!) ”

"Hi Pam, I wanted to let you know how wonderful it has been working with you on my wardrobe.  In just a few hours, I have a whole new closet of outfits using clothes I already have.  What you can visualize in tops and belts and accessories is amazing.  You created style out of what I considered an ordinary set of clothes. I feel so much more finished and polished. And all I have to do is look at the photos to replicate it in the morning.  I could never have done this without you.  I highly recommend you to anyone who wants to take their look up a notch.  You’re also a great shopper with an eye for bargains, but what thrills me the most, is how you made my clothes work with just a few new pieces.  Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.  I’m sure I’ll be in touch again when I need another boost (or jeans or shoes)."

When I approached Pam with a request for wardrobe help, I wasn't entirely sure of the scope of her services and consulting advice. Now that I have had the pleasure of working with Pam, I wanted to share a few things that I found invaluable:

  1. Pam has a wonderful way of approaching the process by getting to know you, your current style and your personal and work needs. She is patient and tries to get a sense of who the client is. She never pushes or forces anything on you, but rather works in partnership to provide her counsel and advice.
  2. Pam's sense of style, color, wardrobe matching gave me a new appreciation for "what goes with what " to achieve the total look. She took many of the things in my own closet and paired them nicely with things I already owned but had never thought to put together. She created a comfortable, yet stylish look for me.
  3. There were things in my closet that I hadn't worn for years. We patiently sifted through a lot and I finally was able to part with some things and donate them elsewhere. HALLELUJAH!!!    Pam explained why it was good to "say goodbye" and never once made me feel uncomfortable.
  4. Lastly, if you are in need of some "new" things, Pam is a great personal shopper. She is able to scan a store and instantly find things suitable for you and your needs. She does this ahead of time so when you go shopping with her, you are maximizing your time and gaining the greatest return.

Thanks, Pam. It was a "wonderful clothes journey"  I feel refreshed and energized by this experience.

“I met Pam this year at a fund raiser and was quickly drawn to her beautiful scarves and accessories.  Before I knew it, I had picked up a scarf and belt from her display and Pam showed me how best to wear them. From that moment I was interested in having Pam work with me to give my so-called style a boost.   I am tall and clothes never fit me or I never took the time to buy clothes that fit right.  First, I trusted her opinion and was glad she was honest with me. Second, she worked with me to organize my closet and see exactly what would work and what I needed to buy.  I work in a professional office and I needed outfits that I could mix and match and I was also looking for casual clothes.  What I came away from this experience is that I do not have to spend a lot of money on clothes.  Outfits could be put together with simple pieces and a great piece of jewelry. Organizing my closet is something I do regularly now.  Thanks to Pam I feel much more confident shopping for clothes and putting outfits together.”

“I have always been "fashion challenged." After graduating from law school (in my 40's) and passing the bar exam, I felt I should start dressing like a lawyer. I knew I needed help, though. Since Garanimals are not available in my size, I decided to seek the advice of an expert. I found Pam's web site on the internet and gave her a call. We did some pre-work via e-mail, and I completed a questionnaire. So, even before our appointment, she knew what my challenges were, what my problem areas were, my lifestyle, what items I owned and didn't own, etc. (in completing the questionnaire, I found that I did not own one single belt!) When the day came, Pam arrived with all kinds of accessories and jewelry, and got right to work. She did not waste one second of time. She dove into my closet and had me try on almost everything. I even tried on items she said were the wrong look for me so that she could explain and show me why this or that item was not a good choice for me. After about an hour, I began to get a feel for what she was looking for, and it all began to make sense. It seems that in my attempt to camouflage my problem areas, I was actually accentuating them. Not good! Pam had me try on jewelry, belts, and accessories that she brought as teaching tools. I would never have looked at in a store. Pam stayed four hours, but I learned much more than four hours worth of fashion knowledge. I feel more confident than ever with my wardrobe. I have become more creative, and Pam has continued to advise me via e-mail or phone. This spring I am planning to do a shopping trip with Pam, and I am beyond excited about it. I can't wait to see what kinds of things she will choose for me to try on. I give Pam my highest recommendation. If you want to feel more confident in your look, and learn how to shop for clothes, styles, colors, and accessories that are most flattering for your figure, you should definitely give Pam a call.”

“Pam, I couldn't wait to get home to e-mail you. You would not believe what a stir there was at work today. I wore outfit #2—black skirt, white blouse, red belt and necklace. It started as soon as I walked in the door. To my surprise my partners noticed right away! I didn't think they ever noticed what I wore. Jan asked me for your card and so did a patient. I don't think I got so many compliments on my wedding day. Thank you so much!”
~ Diane, M.D., Danbury, CT

“Pam, I can never thank you enough for helping me put together a stylish, professional yet comfortable working wardrobe.  I've have difficulty assembling pieces that form a cohesive “look. ” Added to that are other shopping challenges: my height—quite short; and my weight—over. So I've never, ever enjoyed shopping.  One afternoon with Pam changed all that. She has such an eye for the styles, colors, shapes and fabrics that are just right for me. The pre-shopping she did made all the difference. Walking into the dressing room, feeling like a princess because Pam had put together “looks ” for me to try on made shopping FUN and productive. And best of all, the clothes (and shoes) were just right.    Key for me was that Pam listens. I work 10-, 12-, sometimes 14-hour days, and told Pam that I wanted to look good but I also needed to be comfortable. Well, you can bet Pam pulled that off. I have outfits that are just right for meetings at our corporate office in Manhattan and ones that are perfect for long days-into-night at the local office in Fairfield County.”

“I am so enjoying my fashion “makeover,” and not one day goes by that someone doesn’t comment on it.”
~Melissa, Norwalk,

“Pam brought tears to my eyes as she put together the most amazing outfits from clothes that were already in my closet. I actually felt pretty and put together for the first time in a long while. Just by adding an accessory or two, or suggesting a different pair of shoes, she was able to teach me how to turn slacks and shirts into great “outfits”. She suggested things I would need to complete my “new look” and we made a date to go shopping. What a pro! Pam took me to stores I never thought I could shop in. She suggested clothing designers she felt would work for me and told me why. She actually made shopping fun. Pam also showed me a few money saving tricks. Having Pam as my wardrobe consultant was such a positive experience, I look forward to working with her again next season.”

“I want to thank you for all your help in replenishing my wardrobe with just the right clothes as I lose weight. I had never enjoyed shopping, considering it a necessary evil. Purchasing new clothes for special events had always drained me, all too often leaving me with a closet full of mistakes. My outfits used to feel uncomfortable and were not in the most flattering proportions for my body. Shopping with you was an amazing experience! We actually accomplished what we had set out to do, and in record time. You selected some styles that you knew I would wear and made such great suggestions—integrating flattering and updated styles that were new to me with what is already in my closet— giving me a great start on the basics of a new wardrobe. I had so much fun. I never get dressed now without thinking of how much I appreciate your helping boost my self confidence. Keeping my particular budget in mind, you took advantage of sales and coupons, saving me lots of money and time, Bringing things in correct sizes (up or down) as I was in the dressing room was the ultimate luxury, a real time and energy saver. You have a special gift of knowing what looks best—and gently encouraging and relinquishing some unflattering styles. Upcoming special occasions or events no longer fill me with dread. Getting dressed for work is a new adventure. I never realized how much my entire outlook for a particular day is shaped by how I feel in my clothing. I thank you for helping me feel special each day. Anyone who needs a reference may feel free to call me. Your suggestions and advice are invaluable and greatly treasured.”
~ Karen, Ridgefield, CT

“Thank you Pam! I’m the type that would rather go to the dentist than shopping for clothes because I don’t know what to look for—what fits—good colors, or what to stay away from. While I love classic, stylish clothes, the pain of not knowing what I was doing resulted in making boring easy choices of shapeless “mom” jeans, sweaters, sweatshirts, and various styles of T-shirts well into adulthood. Shopping with you was an eye-opener—easy and great fun. My purchases all look fantastic—every piece was bought in stores I had never patronized before—and on sale (a must in my book), and I now look (and feel) like a grown-up with a sense of style. Thanks for holding my hand—supplying a gentle push—and giving me the confidence to venture into a store on my own!”
